about

Slavery in America was miserable. It was a life sentence of hard labor as punishment for the crime of being born black within reach of white people. It was a life sentence of confiscated time punctuated by violence and demeaning abuse. It was also a perspective of observation that was both deeply interior and fundamentally exterior with respect to the American condition. This new slave, the black chattel created with capitalism’s first gulps of breath, was an experimental technology. As historically ancient as slavery may or may not have been, never before had money been unleashed on a class of human beings with the intent of annihilating their reality as men and women. We didn’t come here as immigrants, Sun Ra reminds us, but as cargo, items of commerce. We were baptized by the waters of the Atlantic into a new order of being, a proto posthuman, that is human-being transformed beyond humanity by its collision with modernity in the form of organized capital. This is an advanced state of existence.

All tracks composed by Stanley/Rado.
